Day 24. Kingam to Grand Canyon. Sunday 12th January

We worked out that the best time to see Kingman is at night, because it's wasn't a pretty place when we left in the morning. We had a 2.5 hour drive along the interstate for 190 kms (with a thousand more trucks) and then 80 kms on a 2 lane highway finishing at the Grand Canyon. The original Route 66 meanders along this part of the highway in parts. The left hand turn off the 4 lane highway proved to be scary for all in the car as Andrew forgot about the driving advice he had received from many well meaning friends and family when driving in the USA, "keep the center line on the left and be careful when turning at an intersection". The driver of the oncoming SUV probably got a fright also. The second most interesting part of the drive was the frozen snow on the side of the road and the third was some nicely restored cars and gas station pumps commemorating Route 66 at a service station. We arrived to a chilly 6 degrees at about 1pm had a quick look at the Canyon before returning to Tusayan, the little village a few kms away from the Grand Canyon National Park, to make a special tour booking for the next day and then onto our hotel. The rest of the day was spent relaxing. Tusayan doesn't have a whole lot going on, so we made the most of some down time.

*For those of you that are reading the blog via email, a short video has now been uploaded on the SeaWorld day of our Killer Whale Lunch.

Arizona was one of the 50 US states to have a snow fall a couple of days ago.

Nice classic cars
